About Dr. Desmond Soares

Orthopaedic Surgeon      
Dr. Desmond Soares graduated with an MBBS from the University of Sydney in 1983. After completing junior medical training in NSW, Dr. Soares traveled to Nepal in 1990. He worked for The Leprosy Mission International, an international Christian charity,  performing reconstructive surgery for people affected by leprosy.
He returned with his family to Australia in 1997. Dr Soares commenced  training in orthopaedics in 1998 at major hospitals in south east Queensland. He completed his fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons with a Diploma in Orthopaedics in 2003. Since 2004 he has been in private practice operating exclusively at Greenslopes Private Hospital on the southside of Brisbane. Dr. Soares is a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association and is compliant with the association's continuing professional development programme.
Dr. Soares  deals with orthopaedic conditions affecting the hand, shoulder, kneehip and foot and ankle
Dr. Soares is assisted by a perioperative nurse surgical assistant. Lisa is a highly experienced orthopaedic theatre nurse who has completed her Masters of Clinical Science (Perioperative Nurse Surgical Assistant). Lisa works with Dr Soares in the rooms and assists during surgery. Lisa is also a fully qualified Nurse Practitioner having successfully completed the Masters course at UQ. Lisa is registered to order investigations and prescribe medications. Dr Soares works collaboratively with Lisa in the rooms. Dr. Soares has trained Lisa in history taking, clinical examination and investigation. If you are seen by Lisa in the rooms, Dr Soares will come in and see you and confirm the management plan. Dr Soares accepts full responsibility for all aspects of your care whether directly carried out by Dr Soares or any of his staff.

Dr. Soares is involved with the training of orthopaedic surgeons in the Solomon Islands as part of the Pacific Islands Orthopaedic Association programme. Dr Soares has
 developing a formal training programme to train orthopaedic surgeons from throughout the Pacific Islands which commenced in 2013. You can read about the Pacific Islands Orthopaedic Association here.

Dr. Soares is married and has 3 children. His wife Wendy is also a doctor and occasionally assists him during surgery.
